FINALS DAY 2006 - A REMINDER OF SUMMER!

Held in soaring temperatures, the Worplesdon Tennis Club Finals Day
took place on Sunday 23rd July 2006

The standard of the club has gone up considerably with many new members joining since we built our new tennis courts. The results were as follows:

  • The singles cup was awarded to Adam Chew who beat Sam Sefati in 2 sets in men's singles.
  • Pai Holbrow and Tracey Manasseh beat Sarah Hamilton and Maggie Walsh (2-1) in ladies' doubles.
  • Khosro Sefati and Jack Lawrence beat Ken Smith and Sam Sefati (2-1) in men's doubles, and the day culminated in an exciting match when ...
  • ... Sarah Hamilton and Ken Smith beat Phim and Peter Elsing (2-1) in mixed doubles.
  • Sarah Hamilton reached all her three finals, a remarkable achievement, but withdrew from the ladies' singles to enable her to play the doubles finals. The ladies' singles cup was therefore awarded to the other semi-finalist, Tracey Manasseh.

During the day, there was an international flavour to all the food served, ranging from Persian lamb rice, Thai satay chicken and noodles, Italian pizzas, mediterranean salads, chilli, Bombay potatoes and even haggis and whiskey, to name a few, reflecting all the varied backgrounds of many of our club members!

Families came to support the finalists as well as other club members, several of whom participated in the round robin tournament which ran alongside the finals matches. The Pimm's served at the end of the afternoon rounded off the event very appropriately.
