GUTS CHARITY TOURNAMENT15th September 2007This year, Worplesdon Tennis Club's annual charity tennis tournament raised an amazing £3632 for GUTS (Guildford Undetected Tumour Screening)! Although just a village club, we had 48 players participating, including guest players Professor Marks and Professor Rockall from the Royal Surrey County Hospital and Dr David Eyre-Brook, a local GP whose practice takes part in the GUTS screening programme. We also welcomed the Mayor of Guildford, MP Anne Milton, Terry Cater (Chairman of the Worplesdon Parish Trustees) and Tony Gorham from Lockwood whose client Isabella (deaf and with learning difficulties) was presented with the SITA cup by Anne Milton for most improved player this year. The tournament was won by Peter Jezeph and Benedict Moore with runners-up Andrew Kisiel and Andrew Lever. The trophies, donated by our main sponsor, St James's Place, were presented by the Mayor. On a hot, sunny day, the Pimm's was just right and our lunch of Thai curry and Persian dishes provided by club members was simply delicious. A great success all round! |
