GUTS CHARITY TOURNAMENT

Sunday 19th September 2010

The 2010 GUTS Tournament raised £5001, beating last year's record sum by £1000.

Here's how the 'Surrey Times' reported the event:

A Surrey tennis club have hit an "amazing" jackpot following their annual charity event.  Worplesdon Tennis Club's GUTS Tournament raised £5,000, money that will go towards a new magnetic guided colonoscope – a vital piece of equipment in the early detection of bowel cancer.

Organiser Mary Broughton declared: "It's by far the best-ever and just an amazing amount."  She saluted the generosity of sponsors Ewbank Clarke Gammon Weller, Towry Investments and Fairfax Properties for helping to turn it into another massive success.  The club were also indebted to Asperion Hotel, Fulk butchers and Budgens for providing lunch.

All the GUTS surgeons – based at Guildford's Royal Surrey County Hospital – took part including new chairman lain Jourdan and patron, Chris Marks. Anne Milton MP and town mayor Marsha Moseley were also at courtside.  They are pictured with lain Jourdan, Ray Partridge, John Snape, Khosrow Sefati, Mary Broughton and little Anna and Bella.
