GUTS CHARITY TOURNAMENT21st September 2008Over £4000 collected for the GUTS charity!
From left to right, front row: Jenny Jordan, Mayor of Guildford; Sarah Hamilton and Katie Stebbing, joint winners of the tournament; Anne Milton, MP for Guildford; Benedict Moore, winner of the Paula Foote Memorial Cup for most improved club player; Roy from Lockwood Day Centre, winner of SITA cup, and Paul also from Lockwood. Back row: Tim Rockall and John Stebbing, colorectal surgeons and GUTS trustees, Royal Surrey County Hospital. A FANTASTIC day (summer finally came!) with 56 participants competing in WTC's annual charity tennis day in aid of GUTS (Guildford Undetected Tumour Screening). This is a special year for GUTS, which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary and is also the current Mayor of Guildford's chosen charity. As a result of the event, WTC raised £4004 towards a magnetic guided colonoscope required for the screening of people with possible risk of large bowel cancer. The charity supports a family clinic where high risk families are counselled and offered screening, as well as supporting 35 GP practices in the area who offer screening to individuals through the GUTS scheme. Around 100 attended the event at the club and a great time was had by all, and we are most grateful to Anne Milton and Jenny Jordan for their continuing support of our club. |
